Who Can Enter
1. To be eligible to participate in this contest, applicants must reside in and be currently enrolled as a senior in a public or private high school located in Sheboygan, Dodge, Washington, Ozaukee, Jefferson, Waukesha, Milwaukee, Walworth, Racine and Kenosha counties in Wisconsin.
2. Employees of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc., WCGV, Inc., and any other company which owns, programs or provides other services to television broadcast station WCGV-TV or WVTV-TV (collectively, the “Station”), Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation (the “Sponsor”), their affiliated companies, advertising and promotion agencies, any and all local television broadcast and cable stations, local radio and other media companies, and the immediate family members of each are ineligible. The term “immediate families” includes spouses, grandparents, parents, siblings, children and grandchildren.
How to Enter
1. No purchase is necessary to enter. Only one entry per student. Only individual students can enter, no group entries.
2. To submit an entry, each applicant must write, shoot and edit a video. The video must not exceed two minutes in length with the message of motivating high school seniors to go online to FAFSA.gov and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) student financial aid application form. Each video will be counted as one entry and cannot be entered more than once. Duplicate video entries will be disqualified, and the Station reserves the right to disqualify the initial entry based on section “6” below.
3. The contest starts on September 20, 2010 at 8 am CT. Applicants will submit their complete entry online at My24Milwaukee.com/FAFSA. A complete entry consists of (1) the online registration form including name, address, phone number and email address of the applicant, and (2) the one-two minute video. Entries must be received by the Station by 12 pm CT on Friday December 3, 2010. Entries received after the deadline will not be accepted for judging. Videos must be submitted online ONLY and must be in .avi, .dv, .mov, .qt, .mp4, .mpeg, .3gp, .asf, .wmv, or .mpg format. Maximum file size = 200 MB. No other format will be accepted.
4. Station is not responsible for lost, late, or misdirected entries or for printing errors, server unavailability, computer or any other electronic malfunction.
5. All entries received that are duplicates, mutilated, tampered with, illegible, or from ineligible applicants will be void. All entries (including videos) become the property of Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc. and the Station and will not be returned.
6. By entering, applicants acknowledge that the video is their own original work. All entries must be applicants’ original work and should not be/have been submitted to or published or broadcast by any other publication or media company.
The video may not contain any copyrighted or trademarked material including but not limited to: photograph likenesses of or references to celebrities or known persons alive or dead, recorded music, published works from books, magazines, newspapers, plays, song lyrics, scripts, essays, articles, web site content, or clips from television programs or movies, sports footage, official logos of any organization, existing artwork or graphic design. Applicants cannot use copyrighted music in the video; only original or uncopyrighted music.
In addition, the video may not contain nudity or profanity of any kind, or any other actions/words/symbols/images deemed inappropriate by judges.
The video must include verbal mention of FAFSA and/or You Hafta FAFSA, and verbal mention of college.
Judging of the Entries
1. Entries will be judged by a panel of judges, comprised of representatives from the Sponsor and the Station. Up to a maximum of ten (10) finalists will be selected by the judges based on the following criteria:
A. Overall impact: dynamic/persuasive/informational/emotionally moving/content focused message (must motivate high school seniors to apply for college financial aid) (33.3%)
B. Originality: concepts/ideas/format (33.3%)
C. Cinematic Style: camera angles/editing/acting/direction/lighting (33.3%)
2. On Friday December 3, 2010, the finalists will be determined by the judges and notified by phone. Each of the finalists video entries will be available for viewing online at My24Milwaukee.com/FAFSA from December 6, 2010 through February 28, 2011.
3. Finalists will be notified by phone. All finalists must provide to the Station within five (5) days of notification: (1) the completed release signed by the applicant and if under the age of 18, signed by his/her parent or legal guardian (2) appearance release forms signed by anyone other than you (the entrant), who appears in the video and his/her parent or legal guardian if they are under the age of 18. Release(s) must be received before the video can be posted online for voting. Failure by any finalist to provide the above releases will result in disqualification.
4. From December 6 through 12, 2010 an online voting period will offer the public the opportunity to vote for their favorite finalist video. The public can vote by submitting their vote through the My24Milwaukee.com/FAFSA web page. One vote per person per day.
5. Station may edit the video entries to fit the confines of the maximum two-minute pod in order to accommodate the Sponsor’s introduction and ending. The Station reserves the right to edit, crop or alter the video without notification to or approval by the entrant.
6. On December 13, 2010, one (1) winner will be selected based on the online voting results. The video with the most votes will be deemed the grand prize winner. The videos with the 2nd and 3rd most votes will be deemed the 2nd and 3rd place runner ups, respectively. The winning video will be announced on or about December 20, 2010 on the My24Milwaukee.com/FAFSA web page.
7. In the event of a tie, the finalist with the highest score from the judges’ initial scoring will be selected as the winner. The decisions of the Station and judges are final. The Station and judges have the right to disqualify any entrant due to the breach of any representation made by an entrant or finalist.
8. Station is not responsible for any computer or electronic malfunction, server unavailability, technological glitch, or human error relating to this contest.
The Prize(s)
1. The grand prize winner will receive an Apple MacBook notebook, with Microsoft Office Mac 2008, a Hurley 13” Manzana Notebook sleeve, Promotions prizepack (show posters, station t-shirt, TNL t-shirt/sports bottle/mini-football). The grand prize is valued at $1,225.00. In addition to the prize, the winner will receive exposure when their video airs in TV commercials on the Station. The value of such on-air exposure cannot be determined.
2nd place prize: one (1) Famous Dave’s $25.00 gift card, one (1) Country Springs water park $25.00 gift card and a Promotions prizepack (show posters, station T-shirt, TNL T-shirt/sports bottle/mini-football). 2nd place prize value: $75.00.
3rd place prize: one (1) Famous Dave’s $25.00 gift card, one (1) Country Springs water park $25.00 gift card and a Promotions prizepack (show posters, station T-shirt, TNL T-shirt/sports bottle/mini-football). 3rd place prize value: $75.00.
2. The winners will be notified by phone and must sign and return a release and affidavit of eligibility within two (2) days of notification. If a winner is a minor, then the winner’s parents or guardian must sign a release and affidavit of eligibility before the winner receives his or her prize. Winner must show picture identification to claim prizes. Station reserves the right to examine additional identification and may choose to accept or deny awarding the prize based on the identification presented.
3. If a finalist cannot be notified within 5 days or does not timely sign and return the releases required in paragraph 2 above, then an alternate finalist may be selected by the judges in their sole and absolute discretion. If the winner cannot be notified within 5 days or does not timely return the affidavit of eligibility and release, then the prize will be awarded to an alternate winner with the next highest number of online votes.
4. There will be no substitutions or cash alternatives for prizes except at the sole discretion of Station. The Station has the right to substitute a prize of similar value. No transfer or assignment of prizes is allowed.
5. The winners are responsible for paying all local, county, state and federal taxes on prizes based on the estimated retail value of the prizes as set forth in these rules.
6. WCGV, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. are not liable if the provider of any part of the prize fails to satisfy its obligations to furnish its portion of the prize.
7. WCGV, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. are not responsible for any liabilities arising directly or indirectly from the award or use of the prize.
8. In claiming your prize, you acknowledge that WCGV, Inc., Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and Sinclair Television Group, Inc. and Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation have the right to publicize your name, character, likeness, photograph, voice and the fact that you are the winner for promotional purposes without financial remuneration.
Miscellaneous
1. Contestants are eligible to win only one prize within any 30 day period, regardless of the number of contests entered.
2. Complete contest rules are available Monday through Friday during normal business hours at WCGV/WVTV, 4041 N 35th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53216 and on the Station’s website at My24Milwaukee.com.
3. For a list of prize winners, send a separate, self-addressed, stamped envelope to WCGV/WVTV, Attn: Sales Research & Marketing Dept., 4041 N 35th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53216 by December 31, 2010. Names of minors will not be fully disclosed.
4. This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited. Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., Sinclair Television Group, Inc. Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc., WCGV, Inc., and Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation accept no responsibility or liability in connection with any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by or resulting from the acceptance, possession or use of any prize awarded hereunder.
5. Station cannot be held liable for any lost or stolen entries, prizes or contest information.
6. Station reserves the right to make rules and contest changes and change the aforementioned contest dates.
